Day Four –
Wednesday Sept. 4th 2013
We pulled out of Devils Lake, North Dakota about noon MST
today after a late morning waking up at nine. I spent the morning over at Wal-Mart
and repairing the Jenny. The Jenny repair didn’t work out the way I had hoped.
Initially it looked like a fuel line leak where the rubber
hose meets with a filter beside the carburetor. As it turned out the fuel
filter is actually leaking at a seam. I jerry-rigged it temporarily for a quick
fix until we can get to a repair facility and so far it’s holding with out any
leaks.
We spent the day travelling east to Grand Forks and then
south to Fargo, North Dakota. As it turned out we missed any turn-offs from the
freeway into Fargo to see if we could find someone who talked like they did in
the movie. We did stop later on and much to my dismay they all talked very much
like we do!
Back on the road into Minnesota
stopping for dinner in Alexandria where below you can see the picture of “Ole.”
Apparently he was built back in 1907 and has quite a history. (Photo to be added later).
After dinner and a quick stroll we were back on the road
where we finally met our day’s goal. Mall of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota!
For those of you who haven’t been here this is very similar to Edmonton’s West
Edmonton Mall. In fact it was built by the same people.
As it turns out we couldn’t find a place to park the rig, as
it seemed to be all parkade’s. We went down the road a bit and you likely guessed
it, we found another Wal-Mart. One other rig is parked here for the night.
After 10 long hours of travel today I was more than happy to get off the road.
Gas is a little cheaper down here at $3.67 a gallon and we
managed an average of 8.3 miles per gallon so all in all not a bad day.
Some of you know our dog, Romeo. He came down with cancer
inside his mouth a few weeks back before we left home. We had that tumor
removed but they couldn’t get all of it out. It grew back very quickly and that
has been a bit of a worry so we are watching him closely.
So far no change he is a bit old and tired with his aches
and pains (arthritis) just like his owners. One bad side effect of the tumor is
his bad breath! I’m sure it makes mine seem sweet! It can be challenging living
with him at times especially in a hot motorhome.
We cannot bear the thought of putting him to sleep and won’t
until his quality of life is diminished to the point where there is no choice.
So far he is doing the same as at home and we are thankful to enjoy each of our
days with him.
Soon we will be looking for a real campground to spend a
couple of days and relax.
The scenery in Minnesota is nice. The last few hours of
driving have revealed rolling hills, lots of trees and about 10,000 lakes!
At this point we have put on 1334.8 miles (2,135.6 Km’s for
you Canadians).
We need to start thinking about getting an oil change and
service on the rig not to mention getting the Jenny properly repaired. We are
using her (Jenny) tonight to run the air conditioners while we are parked here
at Wal-Mart. We have two roof air conditioners and they are very much
appreciated. It’s starting to get hot and humid down here!
Last night we had free Internet supplied by the town of
Devils Lake. We don’t have any connection tonight so this will get posted
sometime later on.
All is well!
