THOU SHALL NOT STEAL!
We made it to Mall of America last night. It was not what I
had expected. We had been there about 11 years ago on a trip back home from
Nashville TN.
I didn’t remember all of the Parkades! So no room to park
the motorhome for the night as noted below.
Waking up this we had a nice relaxing time with our morning
coffee and a bit of a sleep in. Watching the comings and goings at Wal Mart.
Finally I ventured into the store as we needed some bottled drinking water and
a few things. After coming out we decided it was time to hit the road again as
it was getting close to noon.
As I was getting the Honda ready to tow again I noticed the
license plate lid was down on the motorhome and the gas cap was off just
sitting there. It’s obvious someone helped themselves to a bit of our gasoline!
My second thought was how much did they steal as we had just filled up before
stopping last night it could be worth a few hundred dollars if they took it
all!
Running at a feverish pace I wandered to the motorhome and
checked and thankfully it looks like they probably only had a Five Gallon Jerry
Can with them and weren’t too greedy! I was thankful to say the least and I
will forgive them, as it seems they needed the gas worse than we did. Lesson learned: Buy a locking gas cap as this
stuff is worth its weight in gold now days!
Getting on the road we finally made our way into beautiful
Wisconsin. As much as Minnesota is beautiful so is Wisconsin. Minnesota has a
lot of lakes (10,000 they say) like Manitoba and it seems many of them are
along the freeway. Wisconsin has even more trees and thicker forests all along
the freeway!
A pretty un-eventful day we didn’t make it to Chicago.
Instead we decided we are getting older and pushing it is not really required.
So we stopped in an area about 50 miles from Madison, Wisconsin in a town
called Baraboo. Right next to this town
is a State Park and guess what its name is. Yes we are staying at “Devil’s Lake
State Park!
So what’s with this name? That’s twice now that we have
stayed at Devils Lake in two different states and we have only be gone since
Sunday! I don’t know either but perhaps ask Barb when we get back as she is the
Navigator picking the spots we stop in!
However this state park is a beautiful one. We decided to
book two nights to get ourselves a bit of a good rest. We rolled in, paid and
decided we better take on some water and dump the grey and black tanks. It’s
$32.00 USD a night here and would be a bit cheaper if we had a state parks
pass. So not too bad as included in the price is electricity so we can actually
watch TV! I hadn’t watched the news all week and it appears nothing much has
changed.
Another reason we stayed two nights was we thought it might
be a bit better going through Chicago on a weekend instead of on a Friday. I
don’t know if that’s a good or bad choice but it sounded good at the time and
of course we will let you know!
After set up and cleaning up a bit we decided to go out for
dinner. We were both tired so that sounded like a good choice for me. We headed
down to the corner in the Honda and found a place called “Hooty’s.”
Great place! It had chicken wings, potato skins and Barb had
Quesada’s. We were treated to some Karaoke too which started off very well by a
great male country vocalist and ended with a female that was lets say either
drunk or couldn’t carry a tune in a buck – or both! The food was good and the
people very nice. I think I will be trying chicken wings in every state we
visit just to say that I did. The one’s here are likely the best I ever had
even beating out Philly’s in Apache Junction AZ!
