Farthest Away From Home Now! Sunday, November 25.

Yesterday we made it to the point farthest away from home for this trip!

Key West, Florida is not only the farthest point away into the south east of the USA but it is the farthest point south on mainland USA.

In fact Key West is about 90 miles north of Cuba and straight west of the Bahama Islands. We are closer to Havana, Cuba than we are to Miami, Florida!
How far is it to home from here?
Good question!
Key West is located at the Red Star on the right side.
We are quite away down south now!

Now, one should prepare themselves for a visit to Key West.
I say this for a number of reasons.
This wasn't one of them...
As one gets to the other end of Duval Street there are some.. lets say establishments there that are not where I would take my children. In fact some of the staff is on the sidewalks trying to lure you in, so I wouldn't even walk down their with young people.

If you thought the guy above looked weird that is nothing compared to what I am talking about. I am talking about... I will leave that to your imagination because most of it is right there in your face. As the sun goes down... things come out and the city changes a bit.

Before heading down to KW, I would read (as one should for any city visit) about the history first to better relate to what you are seeing.
There are a lot of interesting facts, sights, historical moments and sounds in this little city!

Here is a Link outlining some of it: Key West Preparation from Jim!

When we arrived in town we started off with a nice seaside lunch at the Hyatt Hotel.
Barb in her Sun Hat, always looking so good!
Part of our lunch time view.
We decided rather than walk that we should rent a Scooter!
I have a couple of tips here too.
TIP: Ask to see the Scooter first and make sure it is in good condition. Long after we left the so-called rental agency I discovered that we didn't have either signal lights or brake lights!
Just call me "Scooter!"

I thought he said he'd rent me a Harley?
That didn't stop the fun though and we covered a huge part of town. Its not as quaint as walking but you can see so much more this way and it is the next best thing.
Nice beach eh!
Sure beats the Ghost Dam back home.
Just watch out for the darn tourists driving because half of them don't know where they are going and they may surprise you with a last minute turn!
This wasn't a Tourist - I don't think?
Everyone in town heads over to Mallory Square to watch the sun set. Apparently this is a ritual they follow each & every day. When in Rome!

We headed over and what a beautiful sight. It reminds one of the favorite sunsets of times gone by. Add in sailboats and others on the water along with a slight warm breeze & Carribbean music in the background & wow.
Sunset Watchers Everywhere!
This makes me want to go sailing again!
Some of the best Sunsets anywhere... just ask all of these people!
We really enjoyed ourselves at Key West for a number of reasons.
The picture below wasn't one of them.

One reason Barb didn't like this place as much.
I thought we should go in and have a look around!
It can get very busy down here with tourists and if you happen to be unlucky enough to hit it when the cruise ships are in port lookout! Thankfully that didn't happen on our visit.

The main street is called Duval Street. It is a must to wander the little shops and when you get tired of T Shirts there are lots of places to stop for a nice bite to eat or a refreshment.
Duval Street is where the action is!
We decided to stop in here for a cool drink.
There's always something happening here on Duval!
Do not drive while on your cell phone!
Lots of neat old homes, Inns and more.
Lovers in Key West Dancing.
Lovers in Key West riding a scooter!
TIP: do not wear flip flops when trekking around like this!

Much of the afternoon was spent looking around to about 930pm. We got so tired we knew it was time to drive back home. On the way back to the car the second TIP of the day came to life.

TIP #2: Don't buy $6.42 cookies. They are large, they are good but...

Our motor home was parked about 45 minutes north up the Keys at Bahia Honda State Park. It doesn't look far but the highway speeds are slow and sometimes there is a lot of traffic.

These photos might help you to understand
why we do not want to leave here!

For our 60th wedding Anniversary I mentioned to Barb we should fly back to Key West and spend a week here in the American Caribbean!

Some of the best bronze sculptures I have ever seen!
This one is of Harry Truman who spent a lot of time here.
That pretty much sums up the day at Key West.

Other than that we have been spending our days relaxing, walking beaches and reading. It has been very relaxing down here.

It started to rain on & off here today. It is supposed to rain a bit tomorrow (Tuesday) and 100% chance of rain on Wednesday which is our next moving day.

On Wednesday we will move to a RV Resort called Grassy Key RV Park.

Thanks for reading!

Please know that we really feel blessed that we have been able to live out our dreams like this during the Calgary winters.
We also feel blessed for all of our friends and all of our family.

Iguanas Go Home?

The other day I was following Barb. She was driving the CRV and I was driving the motorhome. We were moving to a new campground down here on the Florida Keys.

All of the sudden the traffic stopped and there seemed to be something happening? An accident I thought or maybe a truck that dumped its load in the lane?

Cars in front and then Barb all started to change lanes so that they could move forward and then it became a sight for my old eyes to see!

There he was laying in the middle of the slow lane on the #1 Highway (the main road up and down the Keys in Florida) a large Iguana!

Was he trying to cross the road like the chicken (more on that story later) or was he simply getting a good tan away from the trees?

Prior to this we had seen several large and small Iguanas on the sides of the highway. It reminded me of my travels through Mexico. It wasn't until later I found out that they are not even native to Florida. So where did they come from, one might ask?

As it turns out the authorities believe they came in from other locations via large cargo ships (stowaways) and from pet owners that couldn't handle them anymore.

Back at home we wouldn't have this problem as its cold enough even on some summer nights to likely kill one of these ugly and scary looking guys.

In Florida however the climate is perfect for these monsters from the past to not only live but to multiply into what many believe are tens of thousands!

The attached is from one of Florida's newspapers covers the story.

KEY - LIFE!

I don't know where to start since my last post but I will try to keep this one simple.

More Reptiles!
The other day we went into town to get some supplies (food!) on the way back we saw at least 6 of what I will call Iguanas. They were sunning themselves on the side of Highway 1 which is the main road up and down the keys. Some of them were fairly large about the size of a big house cat and then add their tails to that.

Haven't seen any Alligators since being on the Keys but we know they are here. They also have their relatives the Crocodiles living down here with them. Supposedly they won't bother you unless you scare them or surprise them which I hope doesn't happen. I may have said this before that a full grown one of these has a bite of 1000 lbs per square inch!

I think I mentioned a couple of weeks back that we did see a Turtle at one of our campsites. I tried to get a good picture but he was just too fast for me!
Faster than a speeding Hare!
We also saw some turtles swimming in the pond behind our condo in Orlando. I felt sorry for them as any time someone stopped to feed the birds the poor turtles would come also. The birds (Ducks included) were mean to the turtles and even stepped on their heads to get to the food first!

Snakes are apparently fairly common in Florida too. I like them as about as much as I like large furry spiders so thankfully we haven't seen one yet. Out of all the varieties here only 6 types are poisoness!

If you want to learn more about the reptiles and other beasts that are living in our area go to this link: FLORIDA BEASTS AND REPTILES

MANATEES.
You likely know what these are but if you don't visit the link above and you will find info on them along with photos. Called the Cow of the Sea these are very cool looking creatures and endangered too.

Yesterday we went out in a canoe to see if we could find one.
Leaving from the park where we are camped we headed out like real sailors on our venture into who knows where. Barb had a map which proved at times to not be very useful especially on the way back home!

At times we crossed into canals that made me feel like we were on the Amazon River. The mangroves were growing on both sides and very close together. I'm thankful I didn't learn until later that some snakes like to live in these water laden bushes as we ran into some of them a few times when our turns weren't as quick as they should have been.

We wandered in and out of the canals until we ended up in a residential district where the homes are on the canals. What a site! I could easily live in one of these homes with awesome covered patios, some with Palapas, concrete docks, boat lifts and more. I didn't take a camera with me but wish I had so I could share all that we saw.

As we continued on looking for our Manatee friends we ended up in and out of these residential canals and then down a main one that heads back out to the ocean although we never did see it. After a couple of hours we decided we had better start heading back home.

A problem developed at this point as the tide was going out and we were going in! Although it didn't look like much on the surface I will state my arms did get very tired after a bit. We had to take a few breaks on the way back home.

The sun was beating down on us so at times we tried to find shade and a few times stopped in same next to the mangroves that were growing up out of the water like wet little forests.

We never did find our Manatee's but we did see crabs and all sorts of fish from guppy size to good 10-12 inch tropical types. We also found quite a few Jelly Fish along the way.

At one point a larger fish swam by, Barb thought it was some kind of Catfish but I am sure it was a small Shark.
It swam like a Shark, was very dark colored and had the same features and fins as a Shark.

It reminded me of the first time I had rented a boat with a few of the guys out off the coast of Vancouver when I lived there. We shouldn't have been out there as we had no idea what we were doing other than fishing. We didn't even have a pair of pliers we just bought some bait, rented rods and went. Amongst other things we caught a few of these smaller Sharks which ended up in our boat as we had no way of removing the hooks!

The canoe trip was a good workout and a great way to see some of the views one wouldn't normally get to experience. Ocean Kayaks might be next.

The rest of our time has been spent mostly relaxing or coming into the house for a quick break and some air conditioning.
Walking the beach is fun as there is always something washed up that is interesting to look at.

I FINALLY FOUND IT!
The other day (I may have mentioned) I thought I had found a Breast Implant which had washed up onto the shore. It looked different than any of the Jelly-Fish that we had seen so what else could it be?

As it turned out, on my Beach-combing tour today I found the other implant!

I guess it really was a Jelly Fish?
We don't touch these things to find out as it always means a trip to the Doctor or Hospital.

Our evenings have been filled with reading and exploring on the Internet which has been great for learning about things around here. I can't remember the last night we watched any TV.

As I sit here now I can hear the waves gently coming ashore. Most times it is a calm as a lake with no wind to speak of.

Its 10pm now and I would say its likely 80F with a very high humidity. We are going to try and sleep tonight without the air conditioners on. (we have two in this rig) I don't think it will last.

Today we went into town again so that I could get some "Water Walking" type shoes and a new pair of sandals. Oh... and Barb finally got her way and I gave in and bought Thongs.

No ladies I don't wear those!

I am told I have to change the name because society has a new meaning for that word now. So I got a pair of Flip Flops which I haven't worn since I was a little kid. They are a bit hard to get used to but feel quite a bit cooler on the hot Florida baked feet. Can you actually imagine me in a Thong - hahaha!

We BBQed a great steak dinner the night before last and tonight we did up some fantastic Veggie Burgers. I tell you that if you didn't already know you would be sure these things are beef! I love BBQing in the white sand in my bare feet, it just adds to the whole experience.

By the way if you ever want a small BBQ for your RV make sure to buy a Weber. Everybody uses them now and there is a reason.

My RV Tip of the day:
Get a Weber with the thermometer on the lid and two folding side tables. These work very well!

KEYS REAL ESTATE.
On another topic I am surprised how low house prices are down here still. I know Florida was hit hard by the recession. You would be surprised on what you can get for what we call Calgary prices.

NEWS
I have been going most days without even wearing a watch. This is a big thing for me! Add to that I am finally getting more used to being retired.
Its not over yet, sometimes I do get bored. However I digress.

I don't normally check the News for days at a time anymore due to several reasons all of them personal.

As of late though the best News is about Mayor Rob Ford of Toronto. That guy just never quits! At first I felt sorry for him (a little) as he wasn't smart enough to stop but he has just gone too far now.

The late night TV, Talk and Comedy shows down here are having a hey-day with this guy and all of his free comedic material coming their way.

He is big news down here and it makes me proud to be Canadian!
I know most Americans like Canadians and they know that Mr. Ford is just one more loser that could have lived almost anywhere. I look forward to tomorrow's news for some comic relief thanks to Big Rob of Ford Nation!

One more thing, Barb says I'm starting to look Cuban?
I don't think so!

Just another good looking Beach Bum wearing Thongs! :)

Jim without his Thong on!

A neighbour caught some fish with a net.

Home Sweet Home!

I hope you can see the different colors of the waters.
The relaxing view out our living room window.

CAMPING IN THE FLORIDA KEYS! November 18th, 2013.

As noted earlier we came down into the Florida Keys on Monday, November 18th. Staying the night before in Homestead, Florida at a Casino parking lot with a few other RVers we got up and had breakfast in the casino before heading south.

I'm not sure I should post this but I will take the risk and hope that I do not offend anyone.

It doesn't happen often but it has happened a few times and it happened again today. This time it was a lot different. I needed to gas up the motor home so after finding a place with both a decent price for fuel ($3.19 a gallon) and a lot big enough to drive our rig into, we stopped for same.

Once I started fueling it happened. I was approached by a lady.

She was wearing a small school sized back-pack, wearing sunglasses, a T shirt, jeans and a Dew Rag (a cloth tied at the back & over her head).

She started off with "Hey Sir when are you heading home did you enjoy the races?" To which I replied no we missed the races yesterday and just arrived in town, heading south.

She continued... and then dropped the bomb!
She started to cry (this always gets to me when a woman cries) and said she was the Mother of two. She said "I'm a good person you can ask inside they know me, I have cancer and I just need ten dollars."

Having gone through this before I was preparing myself while listening. Times in the past I have given them money figuring that if it was a scam that God would deal with it and I shouldn't care. This time was a bit different than all the rest!

She continued on and I had a hard time understanding her southern African American accent at times. Before I knew what was happening I heard her say something about "I'm not trying to be gross" and she pulled down the collar of her T shirt to show me what I thought was going to be a boob!
(Sorry for saying this but when faced with this happening so quickly what else would you expect?).

As it turned out she was showing me the scars of a mastectomy!
Now, I don't know about what others would think but this made me take a step back!

I had never dreamed this would happen, nor was I prepared for it. As much as I felt sorry for her I recalled in our conversation that she mentioned something about trying to find a church.

I will leave the rest to your imagination (maybe I shouldn't) but let me say this. I eventually told her that rather than give her money that I would do something much more valuable and powerful.... that I would pray for her.

She started to cry again and said I wish you would sir and wandered off.

I felt so mixed up. My emotions were back and forth. Should I have given her some money? Did I do the right thing? Was this real or another scam (gas stations are popular spots to get hit up for scams). I felt bad.

A few minutes later Barb came outside where I was at the gas pumps and I told her what had happened. She said lets pray for her and we did. I know personally from past experience that is worth more than all the money in the world and I will leave this story at that point.

After fueling the rig we headed down south on the highway. Passing by everglades and acres of wet farm land and pastures. As we continued we came across areas with cattle grazing and plenty of birds standing by for the left-overs.

We came into one area where it reminded me of BC with fruit stands and flowers and all sorts of things for sale beside the roads. The difference was that these were fruits and smoothie-drinks being advertised with names I did not know.

Before we knew it we crossed into the Keys and into Key Largo. The sites from the road were very exotic. We have seen lots of palm trees and exotic tropical plants before this but having them growing wild and large beside marina's with the emerald waters is just something else to see!

Continuing on south along Route #1 the usual T Shirt shops abound but add marina's, resorts, motels, and boats for sale everywhere. It was a feeling much different than anywhere else and sort of reminded me of previous trips into the Caribbean with an American flavor added.

The white sand is everywhere and the water colors range from emerald green and blue to some deeper darker colors for contrast. I love seeing this kind of water!

We reached our destination for the next five nights and I will start with a warning for any of you that plan to come down here. Make sure you have reservations months in advance!

This is a very popular area and the camping had people from all over America here. We have seen people from New York, Colorado, eastern Canada and all over.

We were lucky to get in and our stay here will likely be short lived as we are trying to book by the day via other's cancellations. So far we have 9 nights in 3 different camp sites at two different State Parks. We were lucky to get these!

As we pulled into the Registration area we could hardly contain our excitement. Without even getting to the camp area yet from what we had seen so far we knew we had hit the jackpot for a location!
After registration we drive down the paved road surrounded by 20 foot trees and bam there it was!

Exotic plants, Palm Trees, Hot weather and beautiful seas!
This is our front yard!
This is one of those few places where nosing the motor home into the stall instead of backing it in is the way to camp! Looking out the front window we have one of the best views in North America! The warm Atlantic Ocean, white beaches, exotic plant life and the odd fish jumping for joy!
Our Tropical Home by the Sea!

Having an Awning to block the hot sun is a must!

Our camp stall is perfect!
We look out front or from our patio to the sandy beach and waterfront straight south towards Havana, Cuba! We aren't that far away from Cuba or from the Bahamas which are slightly north of us.

Now this is the life!
Quickly setting up, we leveled the rig (we have hydraulic levelers for this) got the awning out over the patio (a requirement to block the hot sun down here!), hooked up the electricity (for the two air conditioners in the motor home, another requirement down here) and then the water line.

We had a few visitors on our arrival, they are called ants!
They were living in our patio area. One that I saw had front feet like a Lobster with little chompers. I'm not sure if we were his planned dinner or not? Barb got the cure out and sprinkled Comet around the edges of our patio mat and that seems to have taken care of that!

Other friends have been coming by for a visit as well and this included the Geckos. These are little salamander types of friends and I call them friends because they eat bugs. If you don't know what a salamander is watch the Geicko Insurance commercials and change his color to brown.

These little Geckos remind me of a trip I took to Malaysia one time a few years ago. I was warned to not sleep with my mouth open. The reason was that the Geckos came into the house and scurried all around up the walls and across the ceilings in my bedroom.

As one can imagine Geckos eat things, and what goes in eventually has to come out. If you sleep on your back and your mouth is open, I think that they have a sense of humour similar to that of the North American seagull. They aim and fire and guess where yesterdays lunch lands!
Thankfully they do not get into the motor home (at least, not yet) so we don't have to worry about that!

We spent the afternoon and evening sitting on the patio and wandering up and down our beach in front of the rig. A few Jelly Fish had washed up on the shore and if you are familiar with them at all you will know that this is not always a good thing.

Looking east

Looking west
One neighbor told Barb that he saw a "Portuguese Man of War." They may not be the only piousness species and it will keep you alert if you wander out into the water.

Sitting here has reminded Barb that she wants to buy a Kayak.
Now if you know me at all I am fine with that as long as it comes with a 400 horsepower motor that makes lots of noise and goes very very fast. Anything short of that and I get bored easily. However watching people going back and forth in these things does have an attraction and I am sure they see a lot more sea life than we do here on shore.

I might go and purchase some snorkeling gear?
Having been a certified scuba diver in years past all my old gear rotted away in the basement with time and I am feeling the urge to get out there again. I have had problems with my ears so Scuba is out of the question. Add to that the waters here are quite shallow it seems, so snorkeling would be the way to go at least in this area.

We just cannot say enough about the view!

AIR CONDITIONING & HEAT.
The temperatures here do not change much from day to night.
In fact a quick check of the forecast shows at most a 4 or 5 degree difference between day and night with some days much the same all through a 24 hour period.

If the sun is blazing down on you it seems to hot for us Canadians but the shade helps a lot. Having the awning on the motor home helps and I wouldn't even think of coming down here without air conditioning. In fact sometimes we sit on the patio and after 20 or 30 minutes we come inside to cool off. The humidity is high. Reminds me of the time we flew into the Cayman Islands.

The A/C will be on all night long here!

Sitting out side tonight we watched the sun go down with a beautiful glow and the moon rise over the water. The water has been very calm here so it is peaceful and quite quiet.

As I sat in my lawn chair on the sand in the dark enjoying our new location something scared the you know what out of me!
Was it because I was nervous or wondering what all was out there for bugs, snakes and alligators (they have crocodiles in southern Florida too), No. That hasn't worried me at all. But what was to occur next, raised my radar a little to say the least!

Some days you wonder (at least at my age) how people can move their legs and stretch them to some extremes. I found a way and it didn't even hurt! I was sitting in my lawn chair and felt something firmly rub against the calf of my right leg. Without any thought or warning whatsoever my leg flung into the air to heights I have never imagined before! I know something came out of my mouth but I don't think it was discern-able?

You have to understand it was very dark with only the moonlight dancing off the waters when this happened. I don't know what it was but it wasn't a fly or a bug, it was much larger.

As soon as this happened we heard a duck begin to quack and fly off in front of us. Was it a duck blinded in the dark and walked right into my leg? I highly doubt it, however as I will never know what it actually was, I like that idea and will stick with it! A blind duck brushed the calf of my leg scaring me as bad as it scared him?

After having spent so many hours outside we finally retired into what we call the house. The air conditioner humming at near full capacity and the cool air feeling so refreshing. We had forgotten to eat dinner but it didn't seem to matter as we were fully replenished with all that this location had to offer us.

The TV doesn't seem to work here (we have not subscribed to satellite TV) so we decided it was time to watch our favorite TV show on the lap top. It comes on TV on Sunday nights but we missed it so we sometimes catch it on the laptop via the Internet. That show is called The Good Wife.

Don't ask me why I like this show, however I can say the more you watch of it the more addicting it gets. So we settled down with an hour of tubular entertainment before bedtime in the coolness of our air-conditioned home. After it was over I went back outside. It was as warm out as when we arrived in the afternoon. I love it!

So we went to bed retiring for the evening with smiles upon our faces ones that were still there when we awoke the next morning. Ahhhh!

Good Bye Orlando!

I haven't done much writing lately as we just finished a fun-filled week with our oldest Daughter and her family in Orlando and what a great time we had!

As previously noted we arrived in the Orlando area a couple days before they arrived and then on Sunday Nov. 10th we checked into our two Condos.

After being on the road for almost 2.5 months the condo felt really big compared to our living space in the motor home. Each condo had two bedrooms, two full bathrooms a nice kitchen, living area and balcony. We were even able to get our Condos side by side.

We even had a washer and dryer to catch up on laundry which can be important when travelling around in a motor home!

That evening Natalie, Neal and our two Grand-babies Asher and Finn arrived. They had flown in from Calgary and rented a SUV at the airport. They were in much better shape than we had imagined they would be after flying all day long with two little ones.

Back row left to right - Neal, Natalie, Finnley and Asher.

The week was spent going to places like downtown Disney and the swimming pools. A few times Barb and I would look after the boys while Natalie and Neal got some time alone to enjoy their holiday and a break from life's routines. They were able to get to some of the sights and enjoy themselves as a couple.

We were quite surprised by how much the kids had grown!

Asher was talking much more than when we had left and even using real words much of the time which was very enjoyable. His personality is developing quickly and what a joy it is! As much fun as we have with him now It will be such fun as he grows and gets older and can do more.

Asher - Our little man!

Finn as you may recall just had heart surgery in the spring. He is doing very well. He is growing and still smiling every chance he gets. I have never seen a baby smile as much as he does, he is so happy!

He isn't walking yet but he will be soon I am sure. He now pulls himself up around tables using them to balance himself as he wanders around on his two feet with a new world available to him at table height. His crawl is at the speed of an Olympian and its so much fun to watch. He is just starting with words and the one I noticed most was "Daddy." I spent a week trying to teach him to say Grampa!

Finn - He is just so happy all the time!
Spending time with our grand-babies is one of our favorite pass-times and having this time together with them all was so priceless!

Now we just need to convince our other two children to come down in the winter for some warm visits!

After the week was over we packed up on Sunday (Nov. 17th) and checked out, a time that I was dreading. We wrapped it all off with a nice lunch at one of the restaurants at our resort.

It was hard to say good bye and I must admit a few tears were shed as we parted ways. I love this lifestyle of wintering down south but one thing we really miss is having our children (grandchildren included) with us. I wish we could bring them all along.

We had stored our motor home at the resort so once we were loaded up we headed south once again towing our Honda behind. Driving south and watching all the motor homes and RV's headed north past us reminded me that once again I was so close to going to another big NASCAR race but it was not to be. The Homestead race was the final race of the 2013 season.

We ended up staying at a Casino about 18 miles north of the town of Homestead which is where the big race was the day before. This is all just outside of Miami.

While at the Casino we met a very nice couple from Australia!
As we started talking, I asked them where home was and he said everywhere and anywhere. They also have a 50' Sailboat that they sail the world in. It is currently in dock in Turkey!

Once I heard that, I had to get Barb over as Turkey was one of our favorite countries in our travels and add to that we had seriously considered buying a boat at one time before we settled on the motor home lifestyle.

We spent the evening visiting with our new friends and wow what a story they had! So interesting!

They had been coming over to America in the winters and have a motor home (and car) that they bought in the USA that they store in Las Vegas. In fact their current motor home is nearly identical to ours just a year older. They have been to Calgary (our hometown) and even one of our favorite cities; Victoria, BC!

We really enjoyed our time visiting with them and swapping stories about on the road and back at our homes. Our stories paled compared to their adventures however. They have been all through Asia and all over in their sail boat. Having retired early, (similar to us) they had covered a lot of ground and a lot of water! We may cross paths with them again before our trip is over as we will be both heading the same general direction before winter is over (the desert!).

One of my favorite topics of this lifestyle is the people one gets to meet.
It is so interesting and you gain friends with similar interests from all over the world!

FLORIDA KEYS ARE CALLING!
On the morning of Monday (Nov. 18th) we continued our trek south to the Keys. The rest I will save for our next post but I will end with saying this, it is simply spectacular down on the Keys!

ORLANDO - MAGIC!

Not a lot new this week.

We are enjoying our time with our oldest Daughter Natalie, her Husband Neal and our two wonderful Grandchildren, Asher & Finn.

We have two condos side by side.
They are great! Both are fully loaded up with two bedrooms in each.

We have been out shopping and doing pool days and just having some great family time.

The weather got a little chilly as a cool front came down from Canada but it still managed to stay in the 60's.

Sad to say that on Sunday it will be one week all together and time to move on. We will be heading towards Miami and the kids will be heading to a beach resort for a couple of days before they fly home to Calgary.

Once we hit the Miami area we will head on down to the Florida Keys for a bit to explore that area. Its hard to get camping spots down there but we have managed to get a few nights booked at two different locations.

We will update when we have more news.
Cheers!

Fort Clinch - Jacksonvile, Florida

After spending two nights here at the Fort Clinch State Park I might just have to say this has been my (Jim's) favorite RV Park location so far on this trip.
I like it when they make us feel "welcome!"

That is saying a lot as we have been on the road since September 1st adding up to about 9 weeks of Wal-Marts and RV Parks.

The reason why I say this is simply location, location!
Bounder says she likes it here!

Whats not to like?

Camped in a campground with only 21 spots and a few of them are empty is one reason but the white sand, waves thundering nearby and the fresh air caps it all off to a stay well worth mentioning.

Last night we had a campfire and sat out for hours as the sun went down and the moon and stars came out. Laying back in a lawn chair with a warm breeze and a million stars is a great way to spend the evening.

We've been running the air conditioning almost 24/7 to keep the humidity down in the motorhome and the temperatures have hovered in the mid 70's throughout the days.

Air conditioning the rolling condo.

After spending several nights in campgrounds that are heavily treed by huge oak trees and tropical forests it was nice to be in one wide open with palm trees and open skies where you can actually see the sun.

Today (Friday, November 8th) the winds have picked up but the skies are wide open blue. The Topper on our living room slide out is taking a beating and its age and condition are showing badly. I was hoping to get the Toppers replaced in Arizona (cheap) but we may not make it that far as the rips are being tested in these winds today!

Yesterday we were heading out in the Honda to get some groceries and we came across a lonely turtle crossing the road. He was about 10 inches in width and he dispelled some myths. When I got out to try and get pictures he ran faster than a Hare! :)

Today we head out on the road again with a quick look at St. Augustine and a destination in Orlando at Moss County Park.

On Sunday evening our daughter Natalie will be arriving with her family (Neal and our grandbabies Asher and Finn). You likely can't hear the excitement in our voices while reading this but let me assure you it is very much there.

We plan on parking the motorhome at a resort we have booked with two condominiums for the week next week and enjoying the family time together! Just hoping the weather stays warm and dry and that the pool is ready for our Clan!

Life is so good!
