5 States in One Day! - Good Bye NYC! 2013 Oct 5th & 6th.

A quick update today. (Sunday, October 6th).

We left Jersey City at 11am on Saturday morning and said good bye to New York City hoping its not for the last time. What a fantastic time we had!

I thought the sign said "Walk this Way?"
The Jersey Shuffle!

Name it & you will see it in NYC!

Jim! Don't stand behind the Bull!
The Financial District in Lower Manhattan.

I thought it would be bigger?

The new WTC is 104 floors where the old ones where 110 floors tall?

Hmmm I wonder where Saks 5th Avenue is?

Good Bye NYC - We hope to see you again!
On the Commuter Ferry over to Jersey City from Lower Manhattan.

We ventured through five states today! (Saturday, October 5th).
Although some of them we were only there for a short time.
Venturing south and west we went through parts of:

  1. New Jersey,
  2. Pennsylvania,
  3. Maryland,
  4. West Virginia, and
  5. Virginia.
We also drove by Allentown, PA. If you are a Billy Joel fan that's one town he sang about which was cool to see!

We went about as far as we cared to and camped at Sam's Place (Wal-Mart) for the night in Harrisonburg, VA.

GAS PRICES.
From a high of over $4.00 a gallon in the NYC area we saw prices as low as $2.89 a gallon today! I never dreamed we would see prices that low!

OFFICIALLY IN THE SOUTH!
On this leg we crossed the Mason-Dixon Line which is located on the border between Maryland and West Virginia and that officially puts us in the south according to the Civil War days!

For those that have the time there is a lot of Civil War museums etc down this way.

I must say that West Virginia and Virginia are both beautiful states with rolling hills, trees and the Appalachian Mountains! The trees are turning very beautiful colours.

WEATHER.
If this is the fall season count me in!
In NYC I don't think we saw a day lower than 81F. Since leaving its into the mid 80's and last night it was almost too hot to sleep.

From what I am seeing on the news it doesn't look like we will get hit by any adverse weather from the storm down in the Gulf. Initially there was a chance we would get hit but it has died down now thankfully.

WASHINGTON DC
We got within an hour of the capital but couldn't make the time to go in and stop. I wish we could I really would like to have seen the White House and other sites. Maybe having spent a night or so.

Perhaps we will have time to do a trip up to DC after NC?

Today, we have (Barb) to do laundry. That's one chore you do not want to put off. So I'm here sitting in a Wal-Mart as Barb ventures off to do same. Once done we are southbound again!

Can't wait to get down to see our friends in Concord NC.
That's where we are heading next and should get there Monday afternoon sometime!

On Tuesday we fly back home for a wedding so if you don't see any posts for a week, that is why!

Below is a collection of photo's from our time in Jersey City and NYC.
Cioa!

The Marina at our Campground

Lower Manhattan View at night from the Marina

The Marina Bar & Restaurant.
R&R Time - We met a few very nice locals here
and exchanged stories.

We walked the streets every night!
The people living in their condos all own small dogs.
These dogs must be trained not to need grass to do their business?

You don't live in houses here!
Steps to a typical Brownstone Town home.

Jersey City walking.
It's safer than we thought it would be.

The Boardwalk near our Campground looking across
The Hudson River to Lower Manhattan.

Another Lower Manhattan view.
We couldn't get enough of this!

Walking and more walking!
I think I wore out 2 pair of shoes!

Night shot of a Jersey street nearby.

Jersey City Art!
We walked by this every night on our way home.

Living here with a boat in the marina would be nice!

We got home Friday night and the campground
was nearly empty! Where did they all go?
Thats our house straight ahead with a Commuter
Parking Lot to the left over the fence.
The commuters ride the ferries to Manhattan for work every day.
You can see here - our campground was really just in a huge parking lot!
A perfect location for day-tripping back and forth!

A little foggy one morning or should I say smoggy?
