Biloxi, Mississippi. Feb 4, 2014.

This morning we decided it was time to hit the road and really start heading west.

As per usual we had an early start of about 1pm.
The early bird has to get up early and go get that worm, ya right!

We started the trip off with supply stops at Target and Wal-Mart.
The temperatures have improved but it is cloudy, foggy and rainy at times too. I am not complaining, it is warm!

We decided to take the scenic route up the coastal highway but it was mostly fruitless with the weather being the way it was. Add to that lots of stop and go traffic, red lights and small towns. Not very "Bounder" friendly at all.

Finally we made our way to the freeway and went through places like Pensacola and Mobile, Alabama. Finally coming to land in Biloxi, Mississippi at about 7pm.

We found out a short time ago that this place is a mini Las Vegas with a bunch of Casino's. The town sits on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico and not a lot could be seen due to the heavy mist, fog, rain and hefty wind.

We parked in a Casino parking lot for the night (free camping) and the patrolling Security Guard seemed to be a good guy. We are told it is safe here so we hope they are right.

As I sit here writing this a train is coming through town blaring its whistle all the way through. I'm sure this area has seen lot of old trains over the years. If I had to guess, prior to this year I never dreamt I'd find myself in this town.

If we thought we were in the south before... this is just the beginning of a whole new flavour of the grand old south.

After getting parked here (added note; we are all by ourselves in the back of a very dark parking lot) we ventured over to the nearby Casino. Inside we found the same old same old. Nothing much new and after a while they all look the same. We found one restaurant to our liking and had a decent dinner. No deals here price wise though!

I told Barb I would try Craw-fish if I was with someone I knew and trusted. One who knew what they were doing. Until then, count me out.

We were back at home in Bounder about 2 hours later and ready to settle in for the night. The temperature is mild, the fog is thicker and the winds are howling big time now. All will make for a nice sleep. (I hope?).

From Biloxi west to New Orleans.
If nothing changes tomorrow to convince us to stay we will likely head on over to New Orleans which is only about 80 miles down the road.

Sweet Dreams! :)

  1. Looking forward to seeing a post from New Orleans (she says hopefully). It is a city I have always wanted to visit.
